Business name and owner’s name:
The Margaret River Discovery Co. – Sean Blocksidge
Briefly describe the features of your business which offer your guests a memorable experience (What do your guests love about their visit?)
The Margaret River tour for people who don’t do tours. The best tour experiences usually sell out in advance, so we recommend booking early. If you only have a few days in Margaret River this is the tour for you. There are two types of tour, the Discovery Tour for the best all round experience, or the Best of the Best Wine Tour if you dream about wine in your sleep. Check out my website for more detail and bookings – The Margaret River Discovery Co
What activities or leisure pursuits do your guests typically enjoy?
My guests are typically discerning travellers looking for a better experience than a crowded minivan winery tour. They want to discover that Margaret River offers so much more than just wine. They want to canoe the Margaret River or go wildflower spotting on the Cape to Cape Track.
In your opinion, what “must not be missed” when visiting Margaret River?
Most visitors to the region miss some of the best stuff. They end up at the cheese and chocolate factories but miss the opportunity to canoe the tranquil Margaret River or 4WD’ing in the Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park to discover the remote Wilyabrup Cliffs.
Sharing the hidden secrets of the region. Accessing parts of the Cape that most visitors will never get a chance to see and showcasing why Margaret River produces some of the world’s best wines.
How long have you been in Margaret River and what attracted you here?
I have lived in Margaret River for about 8 years. I moved here for the opportunity of managing one of Australia’s great wineries –Voyager Estate.
Do you have family – if so what age group are they (preschool, school, teenage, adult)?
I have four year old little bloke who loves canoeing with his mates and catching fish in the Margaret River.
What do you do in your spare time?
Constantly exploring the Cape to Cape region and constantly researching who is currently making the best Margaret River Chardonnay. At the moment it’s close call between Fraser Gallop Estate and Cape Mentelle.
Mountain biking. Mountain biking and mountain biking. I also have surfboard that is proving to be a dust collecting furniture piece. The Margaret River mountain bike trails can be even more epic than the surf some days.
What is your favourite local wine, attraction and beach… and why?
- Wine – If its Margaret River and it’s over thirty bucks, it’s a favourite.
- Attraction – Anything but the Chocolate Factory.
- Beach – You’ve gotta be kidding right? It’s a secret and that’s why it’s a favourite.
Margaret River Guide Review
Now that you have read about the Margaret River Discovery Co in the interview above you will have a good idea of Sean’s personality.
Sean is oozing with passion for the region, I found his passion is infectious and I could only find myself being swept up in how amazing the Margaret River region is. I was conscious on our time together how relaxed I felt with Sean as my guide, his understanding and knowledge of where to go, wine, nature, walking, business and food made for a great time together. I can now understand why The Margaret River Discovery Co is ranked number one tour in Australia on Trip Advisor for 2010, as when it came time to part I did not want to go. Sean can tailor make your tour on request to include only what you want or trust in Sean to take you to where he thinks will suit you best.
