Young Golfers Make An Impression

Last weekend, Margaret River Golf Club played host to the Annual Wealth Plus Finance Mixed Canadian Foursomes.

Kaye and Mal Wolfe of Perth were the winners of the two-day competition with 147.75. Second were Maggie Foy and Peter Boyanich with 148.25 whereas Mandy Farrell and Cody Laskey were third with 148.75.

Veterans event last week was a par plus competition, which Vince Home (+ 3) won, edging out Lon Beales (+ 1) along with seven other contestants on count-back for third. Women’s A-grade division was won last Wednesday by Mandy Farrell (36) who beat Laurie Barker (35). Marion Squance (38) was the winner of B-grade with Colleen Marks (34) coming second.

Busselton Hyunday is a proud sponsor of Margaret River golf. Scroungers saw youth Nick House win with a remarkable 41 points last Thursday. Jon Beales (41) and Billy Taplin (38) were second and third respectively. Blake Glover (34) achieved best gross. New associate Megan Booth won the weekly mixed nine-hole competition with 18 points on Friday. Aileen Budge came second with 16 points.

Fermoy Estate Men’s Monthly Medal was held on Saturday. Blake Glover won gross and nett prizes after he shot an even par round (always a good sign for any junior). Billy Taplin was second on count-back with 70 nett whereas Billy Pascoe (70) came third. Juniors appear to be dominating- 12-year-old Nick Liebenberg won the Kiss Chasey Wines Stableford event on Sunday with 40 points. Steve Owen (36) was second. Meanwhile, Jan Racine (31) of New South Wales won the Women’s division.
