SES, Fireys Entitled To Awards

Augusta Margaret River State Emergency Service Unit and its member Wayne Credaro have been selected as finalists for the State Emergency Service (SES) Awards this year.  The unit will compete against the Kununurra SES as well as three representatives of Tom Price SES for the 2012 Team Achievement Award.

Wayne is among three finalists competing for the Peter Keilor Award, handed out to volunteers who have gone the extra mile to demonstrate high levels of commitment and dedication to the SES. The news article “SES, fireys in line for awards” has full details on this story. It says the following about Wayne: “Nicknamed ‘The Human Forklift’, Wayne is the unit’s training manager for Margaret River, the lower South West and South West. He said he joined the SES after ‘three years of hassling’ from a friend in the unit, got ‘hooked’, and has been with it for about seven years.”

Wayne was among the local volunteers to help out in Queensland last year following Cyclone Yasi. In recognition of his 15 years of valuable service at SES and FESA, he was awarded a medal earlier in 2012.

Talking about his feelings on being a finalist, Wayne said, “It’s a pretty good recognition,” adding that he was only able to make his contribution because of the support of his fellow volunteers.

SES volunteers play a vital role in the safety of our local communities and these awards are designed to help recognise exceptional SES volunteers, either as a team or individually, who have surpassed what is needed and expected of them.

Also, Margaret River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service brigades are one of the 12 Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) career and volunteer firefighter and brigade finalists for the 2012 WA?Firefighting awards. FESA awards are presented to ordinary WA residents who make outstanding contributions to the local community.

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River Bush Fire Brigades are finalists for the Murray Lang Bush Fire Service of WA Award. The Murray Lang is handed out to an exceptional brigade or individual.

The Margaret River brigades have also been selected as finalists of the Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service of WA Award, celebrating the achievements made by volunteer firefighters.

The 2012 SES Awards recipients will be announced on Friday November 2nd during a cocktail ceremony at Fraser’s King Park at 7.00 pm.
