Margaret River Among World’s Top 10 Friendliest Cities

If you’re looking for the world’s most welcoming places to visit, then Margaret River may be the perfect choice. It was among two Australian destinations that recently made it to the list of Top 10 friendliest cities in the world selected in a readers’ survey conducted by famous travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler.

Hobart received positive feedback for its “outgoing locals, gorgeous views and an excellent airport.” The Tasmanian capital was also described as a city with a “unique location, beauty and kind, friendly city natives.”

“One of the best places I’ve visited,” said one commenter. Another praised locals because “they know how to treat visitors.”

Meanwhile, Margaret River was praised for its beaches and vineyards.

A Cone Nast Traveler spokesman said, “It’s no wonder this small town, just south of Perth on Australia’s west coast, ranked high in the friendliest category: It’s known for excellent vineyards and plenty of surfing; who wouldn’t be happy? Our readers also praised the town’s ambience and restaurants.”

The survey also revealed the most unfriendly cities in the world.

Newark, New Jersey was named the unfriendliest, with one respondent saying that she “ran into a lot of rude people there” while others argued that the only reason they visited was for a low-cost stopover before heading to somewhere better.

Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, was voted the second worst, followed by Oakland, California; Luanda, Angola and Kuwait City, Kuwait.
