Margaret River based Leeuwin Estate winery has been ranked the 04th best wine establishment in the world.

The news article “Leeuwin among the world’s best” has full details on this story. It says, “The restaurant was ranked number four out of the 20 Best Winery Restaurants Around the World by US food magazine The Daily Meal. The list took into account hundreds of wineries from more than 67 countries around the world and was reportedly voted on by more than 100 food and wine experts.” http://www.margaretrivermail.com.au/story/1888119/leeuwin-among-the-worlds-best/?cs=1429

Founded in the year 1969, Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned winery and restaurant located in the world famous Margaret River region of Western Australia. As one of the founding wineries of the region, the estate has earned a reputation for producing high quality wines that can be compared to the world’s best. Leeuwin currently produces about 60,000 cases of wine every vintage and owns 120 acres of vineyards. The winery exports to more than 30 countries around the world.

Leeuwin Estate made it to the list of top five alongside wineries from Argentina, Spain, Italy and California.

Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant from Adelaide was the only other Australian winery that made the cut.

Leeuwin Estate general manager Justin Horgan said that his team was thrilled to receive such an honour.

“(This is) the result of the efforts of a fantastic team with a focus and emphasis always on quality,” Horgan said.

Dany Angove, head chef at Leeuwin Estate, said that the team was more like a family than a workforce, and this was evident from the accolade.

“The award took in everything, the whole of the winery.

“From the front gate, the grounds, the karri trees, the wine and the food, it’s forty years in the making,” Angove said.

“It’s the complete experience,” he added.

Horgan said that although the winery was consistently recognised in Western Australia and across the country, global recognition was something new.

“It shows where we sit on international stage.”

Angove further said that the award was also a justification of the venture that Leeuwin embarked on 40 years ago.

Leeuwin Estate also hosts an annual series of concerts that feature leading Australian and international artists. The performer for the 30th annual concert is due to be announced soon.
