Jewel Cave was reopened on Saturday, 18 th December

The Jewel Cave at Kudardup was reopened on Saturday, 18th December after a major redevelopment which involved working on visitors’ facilities. The previous 50-year-old structure was removed and replaced with a new one which permits water filtration. The new display preserves the ecosystems, offers visitors better views and at the same time protects the ecological species present inside the cave.

Changes at the Jewel Cave also involved building a new entrance tunnel, a carpark and a boardwalk which will significantly improve tourists’ comfort when visiting this stunning Margaret River cave. Retail and café facilities are also offered to tourists at Jewel Cave Preservation Centre.

The Most Stunning Margaret River Cave

The Jewel Cave is by far one of the most spectacular caves of South Western Australia. Boasting some of the largest stalactites in the world, it will offer tourists numerous enchantments. The cave sinks down to about 42 meters in depth and has a length of 1.9 kilometres, divided into numerous caverns. The most impressive formation hosted by this Margaret River cave is the straw of stalactites which hang at 5.4 meters from the ceiling, a source of fascination for all tourists visiting the cave.

Those willing to explore the Jewel Cave can find it at 38 km south from Margaret River and 12 km north from Augusta, on Cave Road. There, in addition to having the chance of discovering some of the world’s most beautiful stalactites, tourists will also be taken through an educational and visual tour of 50 years of the cave’s exploration, which will expand their knowledge about this splendid Margaret River cave and its history. Those interested in prehistoric life will also have the chance to admire a well-preserved Thylacine skeleton.
