Police Pleased With Crowd Behaviour Over Finals Weekend
Police are pleased with the behaviour of Margaret River residents and visitors during the commiserations and celebrations of the 2013 AFL Grand Final on Saturday. Margaret River Police acting sergeant Kath Flanagan said that just one incident at Settlers Tavern needed police attention throughout the entire day. “For the amount of people we had in and around town and the number of people in licensed venues everyone was really very well behaved,” Mr. Flanagan said.

School Welcomes Guest From Afar
Margaret River Montessori School hosted a guest from afar on Thursday last week. Montessori teacher Jacqueline Williams from the Torres Strait region was keen to visit the south west to share information and ideas. While Jacqueline was impressed by the MRMS’s presentation and student’s performance in self-directed learning, teachers and students were equally pleased when presented with an eye-catching art book showcasing notable craftwork and paintings from aboriginal artists in the Torres Strait region.

Olympian Medal For Aran
Aran Zalewski of Margaret River won the Olympian medal for the best and fairest hockey player in WA during the recent Melville Toyota League presentations held in Perth. The success wrapped up a great season for the 22-year old who has now firmly cemented his place in the Australian Kookaburras team. The Margaret River Hockey Club congratulated Aran on his superb achievement and wished him best of luck in his hockey career.

Business Awards A Huge Success
A record high number of attendees and entrants made the Margaret River Chamber of Commerce & Industry awards 2013 a huge success last Thursday night. The event featured an academy awards style screening of finalists in every Award category together with an extravagant cocktail party. MRCCI president Pauline Mcleod said that the awards showcased the immense diversity in business around the region, and it was an excellent opportunity for networking.

Students Do ‘Swimmingly Well’
Both students and teachers had a great time last week at the St Thomas More Catholic Primary School annual faction swim. With a range of activities available for pre-primary to year 7’s to take part in, the aim was to get everyone involved. Overall, it was a wonderful day that the contestants thoroughly enjoyed yet felt challenged enough to demonstrate the best of their skills.

Another Teenager Charged Over Assault
A second man has been charged over the assault and abduction of a Margaret River resident earlier this year. Busselton Detectives charged the 18-year old teen from Gosnells after identifying him as one of the members of the group that attacked 20-year-old Joseph Berriman. The incident took place on Ned Higgins Lane, Margaret River on July 06th. Anybody with information should contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
