Margaret River Ranked Among ‘Top 10 Destinations On The Rise’

Margaret River was placed at number two in TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Destinations on the Rise for 2013. In the South Pacific category, only Christchurch, New Zealand edged out Margaret River for the main title. Broome won third place. The list covered places that have received the highest increase in interest and positive reviews, year-by-year, from millions of TripAdvisor travellers across the world. Margaret River Classic To Be Held Next Weekend

The 33rd annual Margaret River Classic is taking place on December 13-15, after it was postponed from November to allow for the ongoing Surfers’ Point construction. Organised by the Margaret River Boardriders Club since 1980, the competition is one of WA’s largest amateur surfing events, and has formerly featured legends like Taj Burrow, Dylan Longbottom and Jake Patterson. The Classic 2013 will provide contestants with an opportunity to enter the wildcard division of the Margaret River Pro 2014. For details, go to surfingwa.com.au.

Margaret River Welcomes New Defibrillators

Margaret River was recently given nine defibrillator units by St. John Ambulance. The life-saving machines have been placed along with trained personnel at Witchy Gull Service Station, Prevelly Caravan Park, Gnarabar, Darnells Store in Rosabrook, Margaret River Hotel, Lake Cave and Gracies Town Store. Opportunity To Learn A Wide Range Of Circus Skills

Karridale’s Lunar Circus Summer School will once again be held during the January school vacations. This is a great opportunity for kids to learn juggling, unicycling, trapeze, pole climbing, handstands, human pyramids, acrobatics and tumbling and much more from some of the world’s finest trainers. MR SAM Returns For A Second Year

Regional youth are being invited to check out the second annual Drug Aware Margaret River Skate Art Music Festival (MR SAM) taking place at the Margaret River Skate Park on Sunday, 1pm-5pm. The free event will be a showcase of young talents in scooter and skate competitions organised by YMCA. Nominations Open For Youth Awards

Nominations are now open for the National Youth Awards 2014 and youth aged 12-25 years are being urged to enter. Nominees will receive awards in categories such as health and wellbeing, community leadership, creating pathways, cultural understanding, personal courage, safer communities and the positive media award. Each category winner will receive a certificate, a trophy and $2000, whereas the recipient of the positive media award will get a certificate and trophy.
