Kite Surfing Accident In Prevelly

A kite surfer was injured on Wednesday afternoon in an accident on the beach in Prevelly, west of Margaret River. Local ambulance services and police were quick to reach the scene after the incident was reported at 3 pm. The RAC Rescue Helicopter was also called to help, but was cancelled later. It is still not known what caused the accident.

Leopard Seal Alert

After a leopard seal was spotted last week on a beach in Margaret River, the Department of Parks & Wildlife is urging people to be wary of any more they may discover on beaches in the region. DPaW wildfire officer Doug Coughran said that leopard seals were aggressive creatures and may pose a risk to people if they try to touch them or get close to them. “If people encounter a leopard seal on the beach they should give it a wide berth and leave it alone for their own safety and the safety of the animal,” he said.

Club Holds Bogan-Themed Bingo Night

The Margaret River Hockey Club successfully held their Bogan Bingo night at Cowaramup Town Hall last Saturday. Four games of Bogan Bingo were played during the event, in addition to other games including a two buck chuck and a paper airplane toss. Shazza McCloud was the winner of the best dressed bogan award whereas Bonnie Jones was the winner of the air guitar contest. Food was supplied by Margaret River A2 men’s hockey team member and chef Evan Hayter.

Kids Learn Ancient Art

Constructing a traditional Aboriginal shelter was a major attraction for the students when Josh Whitehead from Koomal Dreaming visited the Margaret River Student School recently. Students gathered peppermint tree branches to knit into the mia mia, building a traditional hut in the grounds of the pre-primary and kindergarten. Mr. Josh said that his Wardandi heritage was what inspired him to teach children this ancient art.

Al Brown To Revisit Australia For Gourmet Escape

Kiwi restaurateur and chef Al Brown has said he would visit the globally renowned Margaret River wine producing region of WA in November to experience the finest of the area’s wine and food delights and as one of the guest chefs at the 2013 Margaret River Gourmet Escape on Nov 22-24. After his recent tour to Australia for the famous show “Dishing up Australia with Al Brown”, the celebrity chef will attend the star studded event along with other popular international chefs including Heston Blumenthal, Sata Bains, Rick Stein and Alex Atala.

Margaret River Among World’s Top 10 Friendliest Cities: Survey

Two Australian cities made it to the list of Top 10 friendliest cities in the world selected in a readers’ survey conducted by famous travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. Hobart (02nd place) and Margaret River (joint 06th place) were the two Australian destinations in the list topped by Florianopolis in Brazil. Meanwhile, Newark in New Jersey, US, was voted the most un-friendliest city of the world in the survey.
