Movie Critics Impressed With Drift

Surfing movie Drift, starring Myles Pollard and Sam Worthington and filmed in the Margaret River region, has received four stars from ABC movie critics David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz of “At the Movies” who described it as a “very enjoyable, very Australian film.” The movie, which was shot in local destinations last year, is a story of Australian battlers starting the surf industry. Drift is scheduled to be released in cinemas nationwide on May 02nd.

Walk Against Depression

In order to raise awareness about antenatal and postnatal depression, members of the local community are invited to take part in the Big Pram Walk to be held on Thu, May 09th at 9.30 am. The participants will meet at the Margaret River Playgroup, 33 Tunbridge Street, Margaret River. Light refreshments will be provided by the Child Health Department. Those interested in attending should call 9757 0416.

Lions To Contract Out Teas

The Lions Clubs of Margaret River, Leeuwin (Augusta) and Cowaramup are holding a Lower Capes District Convention on October 25-27 in Margaret River. Community members interested in serving and supplying afternoon and morning tea are requested to submit their expression of interest by sending an email to committee chairman Simon Snook (srsnook1@ bigpond.com) or secretary Margaret Dente (marbils@bigpond.com) before July 15th. Details of costs and requirements will be provided on request.

Breakfast To Honour Local Services

Margaret River Police held an Emergency Services Breakfast to show their gratitude to local services including bushfire brigades, St John Ambulance Service and the SES. The event held on ANZAC Day was attended by a large number of people who enjoyed a hearty breakfast. The police also thanked all local businesses which donated food supplies for the breakfast. These included Leeuwin Grain Fed Beef, McHenry Hohnen Farm Shop, Brumbys Bakery, Margaret River Free Range Eggs, Cowaramup Bakery and Coles.

Million Walk To Support Pets

Managers and staff of Margaret River Veterinary Hospital are looking forward to participating in RSPCA Million Paws Walk on Sunday, May 19th. All proceeds will go toward supporting RSPCA’s efforts for animals in need.  The 40-minute walk will begin at 10.30am, and the vet hospital will be the starting and finishing point. Kids Have Fun At Skate Clinic

Local kids had a great time at a free skateboard workshop held recently at the Margaret River Skate Park. Enjoying an ideal distraction from school vacations, skateboarders, scooter riders and BMXers took advantage of lessons by Skateboarding Australia. Sponsors for the event included the Department of Recreation, Shire of Augusta Margaret River, Bomb City Skates, Australian Federal Government, SbA, NIKE, PROTEC and Australian Sports Commission.
