Wine Journalists’ Margs Trip

Three of Britain’s leading food and wine journalists have been exploring some of the globally renowned wine producing regions of Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia during the last two weeks. The trip is part of the Wine Australia Visitors Program designed to promote world class Australian wines to wine enthusiasts in Britain.

The news article “Food journos visit Margaret River” has full details on this story. It says the following: “The visiting opinion leaders represent media titles including BBC Good Food Magazine, the Daily Telegraph, Decanter, The Drinks Business, Harpers, Off Licence News, Imbibe and Square Meal. Their Australian itinerary included visits to more than 40 wineries and talks with leading winemakers in areas including Margaret River.” http://www.margaretrivermail.com.au/story/1194125/food-journos-visit-margaret-river/?cs=1429

James Gosper, the general manager for Market Development at Wine Australia, said that the trip would help in showcasing the diversity and quality of Australia’s wines and wine producing regions.

“The UK is Australia’s largest export market and Australia is the market leader in the UK off-trade,” James said.

Western Australia wineries included Moss Wood, Cullen Wines, Leeuwin Estate, Voyager Estate, McHenry Hohnen, Vasse Felix, Pierro, Fraser Gallop and Umamu.

Australian wines continue to dominate the market in Britain and remain the top category when it comes to the off-trade in value and volume.

About the Wine Australia Visitors Program:

Wine Australia, working together with Australian wine associations and wine producers, has been hosting and organising visits to Australia and its wine producing regions for leading wine influencers from across the globe for more than 20 years. These may include buyers, domestic and international media, sommeliers, wine educators and other leading wine personalities.

The Wine Australia Visitors Program allows Australia’s wine industry to offer visitors a first-hand experience of wines produced in Australia, their regional diversity as well as the people who constitute the industry, showing what makes Australia stand out from other wine producing nations of the world. The Wine Australia Visitors Program is a vital part of audience and market engagement, making sure that Australian wines are the wines of choice for visitors when they go back. The initiative is open to all wine producers, who own a winery or vineyard that visitors can visit. Exposure to leading wine influencers from across the globe can help wine makers understand and potentially grow their markets.
