Photo Competition Winners Announced

The Margaret River Farmers Market “Year of the Farmer” photo competition recently held at Margaret River Community Resource Centre drew many amazing images with three entries taking home prizes.

The news article “Photo comp winners named” has full details on this story. It says, “Peter Dury won first place with his image titled Who’s Next, depicting the legs and udders of cows being milked at 5am at the dairy where Two Fat Cows have their ice-cream business. Dunja Molony won second with her image Vintage in Croatia, featuring a pair of shoes, while third place went to Helen Rosevear for her Cowtown image, showing cows and a streaky, blue sky.”

Speaking of his entry, first prize winner Peter Dury said, “I titled it Who’s Next, though others have called it Udderly Smelly!”

Helen Rosevear, who took out the second prize, said, “The photo was taken on a farm in Cowaramup,” before adding, “I thought [it] captured the essence of the year of the farmer. It so happened when I took the shot, the clouds were going crazy and producing some awesome skies.”

Judges for the “Year of the Farmer” photo competition included Paul Stojanovic of Perth and Russell Ord of Margaret River.

Katrina Lombardo, who organised the event, said she was very pleased with the number of entries received as they were all very unique and stunning.

“Having talked with the photographers, they all seemed to really enjoy the process of meeting the farmers and then photographing them so I am very pleased that it was an enjoyable project for them all,” she said.

Katrina informed the local residents that the Margaret River Farmers Market will take place from 8.00 am as usual on Saturdays at the centre, but will be positioned in a slightly different way this time around, with stalls being set up from the farmhouse through to the soup kitchen and around the egg shed section.

Katrina further noted that the handmade market would be held at the usual quadrangle section instead.

As always, the Margaret River Farmers Market will have lots of activity with cooking demonstrations, kids’ activities and plenty of entertainment. The market is the ideal place to enjoy fresh food shopping experience in WA’s south west corner. If you want to get a real taste of this unique corner of the world, make sure you set aside some time to visit the Margaret River Farmers Market
