Margaret River Tourism Gets Silver Medal

The Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association won a silver medal last weekend in the Visitor and Information Services category at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards held in Hobart.

AMRTA CEO Simon Ambrose attended the ceremony in Hobart to receive the award.

“Visitor servicing and providing world-class experiences is at the core of our organisation,” said Mr. Ambrose.

“ receives 660,000 hits per year and we collectively service more than 300,000 visitors at our three locations, in Augusta, Margaret River and Perth’s London Court,” he added.

Margaret River has also been selected as a finalist to play host to the first Social Media Tourism Symposium in Australia.

This conference has been designed for tourism professionals who wish to share network, ideas and explore opportunities for destination marketing in social media.

Margaret River will compete against six famous Australian holiday spots including Cairns and Melbourne in the battle for hosting this innovative inaugural event.

Mr. Ambrose further said that it was an amazing opportunity for Margaret River.

“SoMeT is the only conference of its kind anywhere in the world, and is hosted annually by various cities throughout the US,” he said.

The conference bid is a joint effort of the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association, Australia’s South West, Geographe Bay Tourism Association, Tourism Western Australia, Perth Convention Bureau and Abbey Beach Resort.

The first stage of progressive Facebook voting starts today and ends on Friday.

People have been urged to vote daily but mobile devices can’t be used to cast votes.
