Drift’s Premiere To Coincide With Pro

Surfing movie “Drift” will premiere at Caves House in Yallingup on Thursday, March 21st 2013 to coincide with the Margaret River Pro.

The news article “Premiere coincides with Pro” has full details on this story. It says the following: “The film, some of which was filmed in Margaret River and featured local extras and surfers, will be a screening for more than 1000 people in the gardens of Caves House.” http://www.margaretrivermail.com.au/story/1296769/premiere-coincides-with-pro/?cs=1807

It will be a moment of pride for two of the movie’s WA producers, Myles Pollard and Tim Duffy.

Myles, who also played a lead character in Drift, is delighted to bring the movie to the local community.

“We are ecstatic that the Australian premiere of Drift is happening in the South West,” Myles said, before adding, “We have enormous respect for the local community that supported the movie and we’re so happy to bring the spotlight back to the region for what promises to be a memorable and historical event.”

Appearing on the red carpet will be the local WA crew of Drift, co-directors Ben Nott and Morgan O’Neill, producers Myles Pollard, Tim Duffy and Michele Bennett, local investors and dignitaries as well as many business owners and extras who contributed to the production.

The premiere of Drift is going to coincide with the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro surf contest 2013 with many of the world’s top surfing talents attending the VIP reception following the screening.

Mark Lane, the chief executive of Surfing WA, said, “This year the Pro will have all the biggest names globally in men’s and women’s surfing taking part in the Margaret River event.”

Drift was shot in the winter of 2011 over a period of six weeks in and around the WA coastline, and areas from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste, including Augusta, Nannup, Gracetown and Margaret River. Over 70 locals were hired for the shoot.

Tim Duffy, who is a former resident of Yallingup and Gracetown, said that Drift would show the region’s “world-class waves and amazing landscapes to the world”.

Drift is inspired by the real story of Australia’s celebrated surf communities and the evolution of global surf brands in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  It depicts the transformation of the laidback surfing lifestyle into a worldwide phenomenon. It’s a story of friendship, courage, passion and fractured loyalties.
