Cape Leeuwin is a popular tourist destination for visitors to the southern cape, but from August 2 to August 19 2010 the well-visited Cape Leeuwin lighthouse will be CLOSED for refurbishment.
Visitors to the lighthouse will not be able to access the viewing precinct; however, the lighthouse grounds are still accessible to visitors.
Those who do visit between August 2 and 19, but cannot bear the thought of not accessing a lighthouse during their travels might like to pay a visit to the Cape Naturaliste lighthouse, located nearby to its Cape Leeuwin sister.
The Cape Naturaliste lighthouse is located on a picturesque reserve of 8 hectares, taking in the Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park.
The Cape Leeuwin lighthouse will open for full tours again on August 20 and is the Cape Leeuwin precinct is open every single day of the year, except Christmas Day from 8:45am to 5pm.
