Margaret River local artist Michael Wise is a prominent local artist who works in a range of media including painting, sculpture and interactive arts. His art has become much-loved for its ability to capture the essence of Margaret River, and he has been featured in a great many exhibitions both in Australia and internationally and in solo as well as group exhibitions.
The Michael Wise Story
Born in Caulfield, Melbourne in 1956, Michael Wise has spent much of his life in Western Australia, starting with a Certificate and Diploma of Graphic Design from Perth Technical College in 1972, and proceeding to studies in Sculpture and Painting at the same college. In the 90’s he went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) at Curtin University and later a Master of Arts (Visual Arts), before becoming a lecturer in Art at Curtin.

Margaret River local artist Michael Wiseis as passionate about art education as he is about creating art, and in his vast experience he has worked as Artist in Residence at Awesome Arts – Creative Challenge in Albany, Kalgoorlie and also Leonora. He was also Artist in Residence at Greenough Hamlet, Geraldton and was the Regional Artist in Residence at the Artist Foundation of WA.
Michael Wise’s Exhibitions
Some of his most recent major solo exhibitions include “Book of Leaves” at the John Curtin Gallery at Curtin University, and “Perfect Match” at the Margaret River Education Campus Art Centre. His work is featured at Jahroc Galleries in Margaret River and his latest exhibition features distinctive Western Australian landscapes painted with spray cans onto aluminium.
