Whale Song Augusta Festival

June 3, 2011 - June 5, 2011

Margaret River Whale Watching
Whale Song Augusta Festival

Whale Song Augusta Festival

There is nothing that says “Margaret River” quite like the arrival of the whales each year on their annual migration northwards – celebrate the uniqueness of these majestic sea creatures at the second annual Whale Song Augusta Festival on 3-5 June 2011.

The festival will celebrate the arrival of the Southern Right and Humpback whales as they enter the waters of Augusta. The festival is on from 3-5 June and will feature heaps of events including tours of the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse (which offers the best view of whales in town) and a whole weekend of music and live entertainment at the Augusta Hotel.

If last year is anything to go by, the festival should be huge and attract visitors from all over Australia and even internationally. The whales of course will take centre stage, and by June there should be plenty of whales making their first rest stop in Flinders Bay, Augusta. The bay is world renowned as one of the only places in the world where both Southern Right and Humpbacks interact. From here the whales head north to the secluded and calm waters of Geographe Bay and a little later in the year are joined by the rare and incredible Blue Whales (the world’s largest living animal) as they take shelter with their calves.

The Whale Song Augusta Festival is a program of the Augusta Chamber of Commerce and the Augusta branch of the Margaret River Tourism Association, and the full program will be published here as soon as it is released.
